The Legion of Honor is open daily except for Mondays, Thanksgiving Day, and December 25. The museum’s working hours are 9:30 AM – 5:15 PM.
One of the best options is to visit the museum in the early morning hours to avoid crowds. It is better to do it during the workweek because the museum gets much busier on the weekend.

The Legion of Honor houses a massive collection of antiquities. Satisfy your curiosity by exploring Egyptian mummies and coffins, Greek and Romanian sculptures and painted vases, and a wide range of ancient art pieces from the Near East.
- Admire the rich collection of European art
The museum halls contain Dutch, French, Flemish, and other European paintings from the 14th to early 20th centuries. Wandering through the galleries, you can find artworks by Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck, and keep your eyes on striking Water Lilies by Claude Monet.
- Explore Auguste Rodin’s sculptures
Artworks by the prominent French sculptor Auguste Rodin take pride in place in the museum collection. A massive bronze cast of his iconic The Thinker — one of the most recognizable statues in the world — welcomes visitors in the museum courtyard. Many other notable works are waiting for you inside the building.
The Legion of Honor is located in Lincoln Park in the northwest corner of San Francisco. The easiest way to get there is by bus. Take the 18 route, and the bus will bring you to the museum entrance. You can also take the 1 or 38 route, get off at 33rd Ave & Clement St or 33rd Ave & Geary Blvd, and then walk about half a mile to the museum.
Legion of Honor: FAQ
General admission to the Legion of Honor costs $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (65+), and $6 for students with valid IDs. Entry is free for children and teens (17 and under) and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco community members.
The museum tickets are also valid in one more fine art institution — the de Young Museum. You can visit it on the same day for free.
Once a month, on the first Tuesday, the Legion of Honor offers free general admission to all visitors. Also, it provides free entry to Bay Area residents every week on Saturday.
