Пизанская башня: вопросы и ответы

In November and February the Tower of Pisa opens at 9:45 AM and closes at 5:15 PM. In December and January, the opening times are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

In March, the tower is open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM until March 23rd and between 8:30AM and 8:00PM at the end of March.

From April to September, the tower is open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and from 8:30 AM to 10:00 PM in June and August. In October, it is accessible from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

The Pisa Tower can get immensely busy and the lines are common. We recommend avoiding the peak season in July and August and visiting as early as possible on weekday mornings.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is one of the most iconic historical buildings in Italy. Located in the central Piazza dei Miracoli (Piazza del Duomo), this elegant Romanesque bell tower started to tilt during its construction because of uneven ground. Works were stopped for almost a century to allow the subsoil to settle. When construction resumed, one side of the tower was made taller than the other to compensate for the tilt…which ultimately didn’t help.

Despite numerous efforts, the inclination has been increasing over the centuries until the 1990s, when reconstruction and stabilisation processes that took 11 years eventually made the tower stop moving for the first time in its history. The construction was pronounced stable for the next 200 to 300 years, according to different estimates.

Some numbers you’d want to know about the Tower:

  • Construction began in 1173 and was completed in the mid-14th century.
  • The building is 58 m tall on the highest side, and 55 m on the lowest side.
  • It weighs 14,700 metric tons.
  • There are 296 steps to the top.
  • There are 7 bells which are tuned to musical scale and have their own names.
  • The inclination of the tower is about 4 degrees.
  • Over 100 sensors are constantly monitoring the condition of the tower.

The Tower is located at Piazza del Duomo, 56126 Pisa PI, Italy.

If you’re travelling from the airport, buses E3 or E25 would take you directly to the Piazza dei Miracoli in under 20 min.

The nearest train station is Pisa S. Rossore (about 17 min walk). Pisa Centrale, the main station, is about 20 min walk away.

If you’re travelling by car, there’s free parking within walking distance, and paid parking on via Cammeo and in other locations in the vicinity.

Climb the tower, learn about its history, and explore the area nearby with our walking tour.

Tickets to the Tower cost €18 when purchased on the spot and €26.50 total online. No concessions are available.
