The York Castle Museum receives visitors every day of the week. The museum is open from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM from Tuesday to Sunday. On Mondays, you can enter the museum from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
During school holidays, the museum's opening times on Monday are the same as for the rest of the week.

Founded in 1938 by John L. Kirk, this museum gives you a chance to experience York's evolution through time. The museum occupies the prison buildings of York Castle, built by William the Conqueror. There are many exhibitions available at the York Castle Museum; here are just some of them:
- Kirkgate. The Victorian Street. Take a step on the cobblestones of a lovingly recreated Victorian street with shops that were actually in business in York during the Victorian Era. Kirkgate is the calling card of the York Castle Museum.
- York Castle Prison. You can explore the lives of the former inmates of this prison. The most notorious among them is Dick Turpin, a legendary highway robber.
- 1914. When the World Changed Forever. This exhibition gives you a chance to see life before and during WWI.
- The Sixties. Explore the spirit, culture, and history of the 1960s via this exciting exhibition.
It takes about 20 to 25 minutes to walk to the museum from York Railway Station. You only need to follow the green pedestrian signs to the 'Castle Area.'
